The core issue

Only one person in four is genuinely well

Most mental health care begins once someone is already unwell. Yet half of all people sit in the space between — getting by, but not thriving. That is where practical psychology makes the biggest difference: ICAN gives people everyday skills to feel better, cope well and grow, long before problems take hold.

The founder

A leading expert in psychiatry and clinical psychology

“Spend just five minutes a day on ICAN Mental Education to become happy — and happier. You can live a wonderful life, and gain the strength to overcome all of life’s challenges.”

Prof. CK Wong is a psychiatrist, educator and the creator of the ICAN model — a science-based, values-led approach to practical psychology that helps adults and children build lasting mental wellbeing. He is the former Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and chairs the Wong Chung Kwong Institute for Psychiatric Education and the Holistic Education Foundation.

Over four decades he has trained medical students and psychiatric specialists, and given more than 4,000 lectures and workshops for professionals, governments and businesses — on mental health, stress and crisis management, leadership, communication and negotiation. He has also served as an expert witness in more than 1,400 High Court cases.

His work reaches well beyond the clinic: more than 60 research papers and professional articles, book series on mental health, parenting and whole-person education from early childhood through secondary school, over 600 television programs, and twelve years hosting a parenting series on Hong Kong public radio. The ICAN online courses now bring the same model to anyone, anywhere.
